John Hébert

Double Bass

Jazz bassist John Hébert was born in New Orleans, Louisiana where he first began to study double bass with Bill Huntington. After finishing his studies at Loyola University and performing with many of New Orleans greatest musicians at various clubs he moved to New York. There he continued his studies under bassist Rufus Reid at William Paterson University and received a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance in 1994.

The past few years Hébert has taken on the role of bandleader of various projects like his group Byzantine Monkey, John Hébert Trio and the Rambling Confessions quartet. In the past he collaborated with Uri Caine on an album as bassist of the Uri Caine Trio. Hébert has performed around the world at festivals such as the North Sea Jazz Festival, Tampere Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, Moers Jazz Festival, Ear Shot Jazz Festival and San Francisco Jazz Festival.
