Leon Kosavic


Leon Kosavic (1991) began his vocal education at the age of twelve. He graduated and attained his master’s degree at The Academy of Music in Zagreb in class of Maestro Giorgio Surian.

In 2011 he was awarded first prize at a Croatian national competition for students, he made his debut as Moralés in a production of The Academy of Music, and his professional debut at The Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb as Papageno (W.A.Mozart The magic flute) where he later performed as Moralés. In 2013 he was awarded the Audience choice award at a competition for young artits. At the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb he made his debut as Masetto. Leon Kosavic was awarded first prize at a competition for young artists held in Zagreb and performed with the Croatian Radiotelevision Symphony Orchestra. He also performs the role of Papageno (W.A.Mozart The magic flute, Moralés (G.Bizet Carmen),and Marchello (G.Puccini La bohème ). In 2014 Leon Kosavic made his debut as Orfeo in Gluck´s Orfeo ed Euridice at Concert Hall Vatroslav Lisinski. He was awarded third prize at the Mirjam Helin International Singing Competition in Finland. Leon Kosavic was proclaimed Young Musician of the Year and awarded by The Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra for his achievements in 2014. He performed in Finland as Pilate in Bach´s Johannes Passion with The Sinfonia Finlandia Jyväskylä. In March of 2015, Leon Kosavic was awarded first prize at prestiguos The Emmerich Smola Award by SWR (Emmerich Smola Förderpreis 2015) in Germany. In 2015, he made his debut as Don Giovanni at The Croatian National Theatre. Also, he performed in gala concerts at Dubrovnik Summer Festival alongside with The Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Uroš Lajović. He also qualified for the finals of the prestigious Norwegian competiton „Queen Sonja International Music Competition“. Among more than 400 applicants, he was ultimately one of the 5 artists to enter the grand final. In October 2015, Leon appeared multiple times as Dottor Malatesta in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale at Finnish National Opera in Helsinki. This role got him a contract for 2017 in Helsinki, where he will be performing in the leading role of Figaro in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia. He also performs roles such as Valentino (C.Grounod Faust), Morales (G.Bizet Carmen), Dandini (G.Rossini La Cenerentola), Marulo (G.Verdi Rigoletto) and Marchello (G.Puccini La bohème).

Since 2015, he is artist in residence in Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, under the guidance of José van Dam.
