Discover the CDs of Brussels Philharmonic
The Brussels Philharmonic has a very active recording programme – that is only to be expected, given that their home base is the acoustically world-class Studio 4 at Flagey.
The various recording series being issued by the orchestra, both on its own label and with external partners, each have their own distinctive profile. Moreover, the orchestra, thanks to its various collaborations, is in a position to offer a very broad and diverse repertoire: from forgotten French Romantic composers to the great classics, from film music to opera, from portraits of composers to young talent.
A great deal of attention is being devoted both to the performance and to the technical aspects of the recordings. The Brussels Philharmonic wishes to give its listeners a unique and high quality experience, whether in the concert hall or at home. That this approach is paying off is evident from the many laudatory reviews in the international press.
Moreover, a wide range of concerts by the Brussels Philharmonic, both here and abroad, is recorded – resulting in a unique collection of live recordings.
For his first recording as Chief Conductor of the Brussels Philharmonic, Stéphane Denève consciously opted for a contemporary composer. The prestigious label Deutsche Grammophon was happy to go along with the choice of works by the young French composer Guillaume Connesson, who is considered one of the most talented composers today.
The concerto for flute Pour sortir au jour (2014) was recorded with the French flautist Mathieu Dufour, principal flute with the Berlin Philharmonic. Flammenschrift (2012), E chiaro nella valle il fiume appare (2015) and Maslenitsa (2012) constitute a symphonic trilogy that pays tribute to the culture and music of three different countries: Germany, Italy and Russia.
