Rufus Wainwright

singer/songwriter

Rufus Wainwright comes from an extraordinary musical background, and was successful on stage from an early age. He is considered one of the "most compelling singer-songwriters of his generation", with several successful CDs.

The artist of American-Canadian parents has never concealed his love for classical music and opera. Among other things, he conducted concert series with Amsterdam Sinfonietta (Wider than Classical) and in 2009 he wrote his first opera Prima Donna, followed by Hadrian in 2018.

To also bring the operas to the concert stage, he came up with the concept of a 'symphonic visual concert'.

CONCERT

RUFUS WAINWRIGHT & HADRIAN

Rufus Wainwright has been an opera lover since childhood. He convinced his sister Martha and her family members to reenact scenes from Puccini's Tosca at home. Yet it took until 2009 for his first opera Prima Donna to be staged. In 2018, he conceived its successor, Hadrian, commissioned by the Canadian Opera Company Toronto. The Klarafestival 2024 brings this extraordinary production to Bozar.

16.03.2024 at Bozar & 17.03.2024 at TivoliVredenburg (Utrecht)
