pre-concert performance

For the concert Supra Natural (on 06 November at Flagey), our trombonist William Foster adds even more electronics: a work for trombone and loop station, an 'absolute riot to perform from start to finish.' (Foster)
Experience these performances live on Thursday 6 november in Flagey (2 sessions at 19:20 and 19:40 in Studio 2).

Electronics in the concert hall? Think of it as a spark of invisible magic—something mechanical yet alive, opening up the symphonic sound, enriching it, or pushing back against it. Ilan Volkov brings together four composers who let two sound worlds clash and collide—or seamlessly blend.

William Foster

"Slipstream was written in 2012 by the German composer, guitarist, and heavy metal musician (!) Floran Magnus Maier. Written for solo trombone and loop station, it is - in my opinion - one of the most dynamic and engaging works for trombone written in recent years.

Throughout the piece, the loop station is used to record, playback, and loop almost everything the trombonist performs in real time, resulting in a highly-complex collage-like texture of interweaving melodies and ideas. The piece is also highly demanding, requiring virtuosic control of both the trombone and the 7-pedal loop station, but is nonetheless an absolute riot to perform from start to finish."
