Spanish director Luis Buñuel, in collaboration with Salvador Dalí, gave birth to the very first surrealist masterpiece in the history of cinema: Un chien andalou. A series of seemingly randomly edited scenes provoke the audience - surrealism at its purest. The initial images are immediately striking: a man sharpens his razor, stands on a balcony, and gazes intently into the night sky. As a small cloud passes in front of the full moon, the man violently stabs a young woman in the eye. The visually dramatic scenes that follow are both provocative and fascinating, while Buñuel Buñuel denies the viewer any point of reference or orientation.
