Philip Glass, the king of minimal music, will turn 90 in 2027 – yet he’s still composing with undiminished energy. His first job—assisting Ravi Shankar on a film soundtrack—marked the beginning of a remarkable career in cinema, and to date he has scored over 50 films.
Musical minimalism has since carved out a lasting place on the big screen. Film journalist Robin Broos delved into the genre’s hypnotic power and picked out some of the boldest minimalist scores.
