Anyone who has attended in recent years will confirm it: this is a veritable feast of classical music. Iedereen Klassiek bathes everyone and everything in a joyful classical-music bath.

As usual Brussels Philharmonic closes the day performing some well-known classics.

“Music begins where words fail.” Jean Sibelius wrote his only Violin Concerto for himself — or perhaps for the dream he once had: “For ten years it was my greatest ambition to become a violin virtuoso,” he confessed in his diary at the age of fourteen. He never achieved that goal, and in his concerto you hear not only a deep understanding of the instrument, but also his sorrow.

We also pay tribute to Edward Elgar with a selection from the Enigma Variations — fourteen portraits built on a single theme. It may seem simple, even ordinary, but the playful improvisation Elgar sketched one evening at the piano grew into one of the most beloved works in the symphonic repertoire. Brussels Philharmonic has chosen the finest variations for Iedereen Klassiek.
