Music on the Move

shifting from Philharmonic to Brussels

“The world needs symphonic music. And symphonic music needs the world.”
This guiding principle drives Brussels Philharmonic, a vibrant symphonic collective at the heart of Europe’s capital: Brussels. But what if Brussels Philharmonic shifts its focus from the Philharmonic to Brussels?

Imagine the city coming alive as its musicians break free from convention, push the boundaries of their instruments and artistry, and blend their craft with the pulse of the city. What new possibilities could emerge when their symphonic souls intertwine with the heartbeat of Brussels?

The ‘Music on the Move’ project challenges the musicians of Brussels Philharmonic to rethink their craft and repertoire, bringing themselves and their music out of the concert hall and into the heart of the city. By sparking dialogue with the city around them, this initiative breaks down old barriers and reimagines classical music in a vibrant, modern context. Get ready for a bold and fresh take on symphonic music that connects with today’s urban pulse!

Drum & Bass

Responding to the open call for innovative projects, soloists Titus Franken (percussion) and Jean Xhonneux (tuba) joined forces and created a mobile performance that transcends the physical and traditional constraints of conventional classical music. Instead, these gifted musicians take you deep into the energetic, bass-heavy realm of Drum & Bass, proving that classical instruments (and musicians!) are far more versatile than most imagine.

As masters of their craft Titus and Jean push the boundaries of their respective instruments to create an urban soundscape that is refreshingly modern yet rooted in technical brilliance—a perfect score to the bustling city. By blending the rich, resonant tones of the tuba with the rhythmic intensity of percussion, they introduce their audiences to a surprising and captivating interpretation of contemporary electronic music.

What makes this collaboration truly special is the way it highlights the untapped potential of their instruments. The tuba, often associated with deep, orchestral undertones, takes on new life—becoming a driving force in rhythmic interplay with the powerful, intricate beats of the percussion. The result is a bold, genre-bending performance that redefines what’s possible in live music.

Set against the vibrant backdrop of the city, this performance intrigues and impresses every casual passerby—whether they’re classical music enthusiasts, fans of modern electronic styles, or something else entirely. This performance promises to grip and dazzle at every turn.
