Brussels Philharmonic | An Evening with Avishai Cohen

An Evening with Avishai Cohen

Brussels Philharmonic joins forces with living jazz legend Avishai Cohen. On october 14 and15 oktober, the Israeli double bass player and his trio will share the stage with the musicians of Brussels Philharmonic. Conductor Alexander Hanson will take up the baton for this unique ‘jazz meets symphonic’ concerts.

‘An Evening with Avishai Cohen’ features Cohen’s dynamic core Trio of double bass, piano and percussion, while the sophisticated, legitimate integration of orchestra lends an added dimension to Cohen’s distinctive sound. His compositions reflect an expansive musical universe and embrace a vital blend of traditions, cultures, languages and styles, from Hebrew and Ladino folk songs to jazz standards, pulsating contemporary jazz and Classical. The result is an exhilarating musical experience, intimate yet high impact.

I have always felt a deep respect and love for classical music, with J.S.Bach being my biggest influence in this genre. Working on my album Almah opened up a lot of new ideas for me, and above all I wanted to create a project in which the orchestra played an integral part, not just as a ‘backing band’. It feels like a natural coming together of ideas and also the beginning of a new chapter.
