Airchoir No. 1: Organum for 8 Coded Organ Voices is the first in a series of sound installations bringing together sound and textiles. Eight inflatable forms are each connected to an organ pipe. They continuously rise and fall, as if breathing and singing together as a choir.
Because the pitches of the organ pipes are close to one another, they interact, creating audible vibrations and waves. The different sounds and resonances gradually merge into an F major chord.
What you hear depends on where you stand. The space in which the installation is presented also shapes its sound. As a result, Airchoir sounds slightly different in every space and from every position.
Prompts instead of notes? That’s what happens when you dare to let go of control: a graphic spark that disrupts, liberates, or completely reinvents the classical orchestral sound. Forget the ticking of your watch — here, music doesn’t rush forward; it bites into the now. Ilan Volkov and four visionary composers ask us to listen differently: what remains when the noise falls away?
Discover moreAnouk Kellner is a Brussels-based sound artist and experimental musician. In her work, she approaches sound as something tangible that is constantly interacting with its surroundings. How does sound relate to the body, to a space and to different ways of listening?
She explores these questions through performances and installations. Using sometimes absurd sonic objects and mechanical systems, she creates situations in which new meanings emerge from the poetic interplay between sound, its source and the body.
