I'm Tim, and I've been bass trombonist with Brussels Philharmonic since 1994. Alongside playing the trombone, I also feel completely at home in front of the orchestra as a conductor.
Outside the music world, I enjoy unwinding in the kitchen or tinkering with electronics. As a musician, I like to explore many different fields, driven by a passion for sound, creativity and craftsmanship.
The orchestra's rich low brass sound is my domain, on bass trombone and contrabass trombone. Those two heavyweights use up all my breath – so I'm happy to leave the other instruments to my colleagues!
My playlist brings together very different musical worlds: Tolga Kashif's symphonic Queen Symphony, David Maslanka's magnificent Symphony No. 4, but also the irresistible grooves of Snarky Puppy. Brussels Jazz Orchestra is a regular favourite too, as is the unique sound world of Renaud Garcia-Fons. Music with character, colour and, above all, energy never stops inspiring me.
As I conduct several wind bands every week, I'm constantly looking for new repertoire. Maslanka wrote truly wonderful music – especially his Fourth and Ninth Symphonies, which are among my favourites. I also love living composers such as John Mackey, the American Randall Standridge and Eric Whitacre. And yes, Whitacre doesn't just write brilliant choral music – his works for wind orchestra are equally outstanding! Give Godzilla Eats Las Vegas a listen. Outside work, you'll find Snarky Puppy, Buena Vista Social Club, El Tattoo del Tigre, Kommil Foo, De Nieuwe Snaar and OTO Machine on my playlist.

The highlight of my holidays is not making music, composing or conducting at all. Italy remains my favourite destination, although the other warm countries around it appeal to me just as much. Ideally, I'd spend my summer in a beautiful house on the Italian coast, together with everyone from our newly blended family.
A great bottle of Amarone, shared with as many people as possible, accompanied by Groendal Barista cheese. Then a homemade osso buco with proper Belgian fries and, of course, homemade mayonnaise.
